Scandinavia

Following the success of our Arctic Circle Tour, we've decided to offer another tour to Scandinavia that can be completed within a two-week window. This time we'll be focussing on Denmark, Southern Norway and Sweden and driving some of the region's most thrilling roads.

There's something different about Scandinavia - maybe it's the gin-clear skies or the wide coastal horizons or the contrast between rocky outcrops and snowy peaks - it's not like the rest of Europe.

Our tour begins with a North Sea ferry crossing to Holland then a quick drive through Germany for the ferry to Denmark. Our route to Sweden is over the famous Oresund Crossing, the longest tunnel bridge combination in Europe.

Once in Sweden we begin our journey north hugging the coastline to begin with but then heading inland to the pretty town of Trollhatten.

We cross into Norway near Oslo and join the E6 road which further north becomes the famous Arctic Highway. At Lillehammer we leave the tarmac to begin our exploration of the gravel roads of the interior. We'll be heading up to the Jotunheim plateau where even in July the roads will be lined with snow.

Our quest to find great driving continues west and the thrilling Trollstigen road with its tight hairpin bends and spectacular views. A head for heights is definitely need here! Eventually we reach the coast and the incredible Atlantic Highway which leaps between islands dotted in a clear blue sea.

Now our route swings north again and we take time to wander in the beautiful city of Trondheim with its brightly painted riverside warehouses. Our most northerly point on this trip is Hell and the obligatory photo at the train station.

Crossing back into Sweden, we experience a change of scenery driving through pine forests and along the shore lines of mirror like lakes reflecting the rolling green hillsides. It's time to leave the vehicles for a day riding the disused rail lines on rail-workers trolleys. What better way to work up an appetite for a picnic of delicious local produce.

Time to head south now and we cross by ferry back into Denmark staying for a couple of days to explore the many sights of the capital Copenhagen. All too soon, we head for the Low Countries and the ferry back to England.

PLEASE NOTE

On this tour we include all ferry crossings, from UK to Holland and from Germany to Denmark. We also include the crossing fro Denmark to Sweden plus all the smaller ferries in fjord-land. We also include all tolls on private gravel roads. The only thing we don't cover are the electronic motorway tolls. (We hate motorways too!)
