Morocco Earthquake

Our usual Classic Tours at Easter were as busy as ever. After a summer recess we were looking forward to our autumn trips when in early September, the Atlas Mountains were rocked by a devastating earthquake. Desperate to help, the Atlas Overland team, fantastic customers together with families and friends swung into action to organise the delivery of aid supplies as part of our Grand Tour. We liaised with the High Atlas Foundation; a long-established charity based in Morocco to determine what materials were required.

And so it was, on 20 September ten 4x4s heavily-laden with tents, blankets, clothing and emergency supplies, boarded the ferry at Portsmouth bound for Spain and then onto Morocco. At HAF headquarters in Marrakech, our supplies were offloaded, ready to be sorted into family group sets before being loaded onto trucks heading for the disaster zone. Two weeks later, another group of our 4x4s did the same.

Here's a few pictures from the High Atlas Foundation HQ in Marrakech. We're grateful to all of those who donated and to those who transported aid to Morocco. Winter is upon us and conditions in the Atlas Mountains are brutal. Please considder a donation to one of the many appeals such as the Red Cross.
