Corsica
Off-roading in an Island Paradise
This is a relaxed tour of the beautiful Mediterranean island of Corsica. With soaring mountain peaks, white sandy beaches, fine wine and miles of off-road tracks, this tour is designed to be a gentle meander into one of the Mediterranean's best kept secrets. Here you’ll find mountains as high as the Alps, lush green valleys, and a spectacular coastline.
After meeting in Marseille and relaxing on the overnight ferry crossing we arrive in Corsica and step back in time. This is rural France with an Italian twist. The first area we visit in the centre of the island is a maze of off-road tracks, which lead you deep into the forest and with every corner turned offering new stunning vistas and clean mountain air.
We stay on each of our campsites for two nights to avoid the hassle of packing away every morning. This also gives the opportunity to relax all day on the campsite if you want a break from driving.
Our route wends its way east via some fabulous tracks which, once clear of the forest give views to the sea. Our campsite on the eastern coast is on the beach with the waves lapping only a few metres away. An evening of fine wines and sunbathing is a good way to wind down after a gentle off-road drive!
The next stage of the trip takes us through the heart of Corsica and will wind through pretty villages, mountain peaks and arid scrubland, driving some of the best off-road tracks on the island. Our campsite is on a small family run farm and our host is an excellent cook who is eager to show of the best of Corsican cuisine. From our base we will explore the gorges and high mountain tracks in the centre of the island.
Our final destination is the north coast of Corsica where we explore rugged coastal tracks which twist and turn down to deserted, white sandy beaches which are inaccessible without a four wheel drive. Our final campsite overlooks a pretty harbour and we end the trip on the beach watching the sunset over the Mediterranean.
This combination of relaxation, fantastic off-roading and stunning scenery can only be achieved on such an idyllic island.
