September 2015 Newsletter

Welcome to our September newsletter. With the season well underway, we thought we'd let you know what we've been up to over the summer. Firstly we have a new website, so please head over and take a look;

Also we have been to some new and exciting destinations.

Scandinavia

In June we ran our new trip to Scandinavia. Yet again, we were blessed with superb weather and spectacular views at every turn. We found some superb gravel roads running for miles and miles through remote moorland, past crystal clear lakes and streams, past mighty waterfalls and snow-capped peaks.
We drove some classic routes in Norway including the serpentine Trollstigen and the island-hopping Atlantic Road.
In Sweden we swapped from four wheels to three wheels and, enjoyed a sunny day riding the rails through the forests and lakes of Dalsland.
We concluded the tour with a two-night stay in Copenhagen and some serious city sightseeing.
Next year's tour will be from 24 June to 10 July. The cost is £1295 per person based on two people sharing a vehicle. This included return ferry UK-Holland with sea view cabin with en suite facilities, ferry crossing from Germany to Denmark and Denmark to Sweden. We also include all internal toll roads and fjord ferries. For more details, click on any of these images:-

Iceland

In July we had the trip of a lifetime to Iceland. We began the tour in Denmark, boarding the MV Norana ferry to Iceland with other overlanders from all over Europe driving a huge range of off road vehicles from VW Syncro 4x4s, Defenders, Discoveries and Land Cruisers to Unimogs and full blown expedition trucks. Once we arrived on Iceland and disembarked, the various groups dispersed and we drove spectacular routes through the highlands where we barely saw another vehicle.

We were amazed by the geological splendour of Iceland with its volcanoes, waterfalls, geysers and hot springs. When we arrived, many roads in the highlands were still snow bound but as the tour progressed, more were opened and we had some splendid driving across lava flows and deserts with multiple river crossings.

Although it was occasionally chilly - well it is Iceland - most days wee sunny and clear. On the north of the island we took a break from off-roading and enjoyed a day whale watching on a traditional Icelandic fishing boat.

We were joined by John Pearson and his partner Pat from Land Rover Owner magazine and there will be an extensive feature in the magazine later this year.

Please note, we've already had a great deal of interest in the 2016 tour and there is only one vehicle place left. For more details, click on any of these images:-

Alps

In August we ran our classic Alps tour. This year we spent yet more time driving the high level military roads in Italy that link a network of abandoned forts and other installations. We also drove one of Europe's highest trails twisting and turning to a shade under 10,000 feet to the Sommeiller glacier.
We retuned to French soil but only briefly as most of the group too to the water for a thrilling trip white water rafting down the Isere river. A few brave souls left the ground to go hang gliding, soaring in the thermals over the valley below.

STOP PRESS

This month's Issue of Land Rover Owner magazine has an extensive feature on our recent Corsica tour. As a result we've only a couple of places left for our 2016 tour, dates are 23 May to 2 June. The cost is £895 per person based on two people sharing a vehicle. This includes return Mediterranean cruise ferry with sea view cabin and en-suite facilities, all Corsican campsite accommodation and Atlas Overland guide and support vehicle on call 24/7.

2016 Adventure Tours

In our last newsletter we published our schedule of tours for 2016; as a result the phone and email has been busy and tours are filling quickly. Remember, we specialise in small groups, typically 6 customer vehicles so early booking is advisable.

Please note that our Portuguese tour now runs in August to take advantage of the summer heat and school summer holidays. Our Corsica and April Morocco tours also coincide with school holidays as many of our customers are tied to these periods because of their jobs or children. Unlike the big travel companies, we don't charge a premium for tours during holiday periods!

We've also moved our autumn Morocco trips earlier to take advantage of long Saharan evenings and for something different we'll be revisiting Scandinavia and Iceland in the summer.
